La Mer Panji Bakery & Cafe

La Mer Panji is a café and bakery located near the ocean in Ulsan. Its spacious rooftop offers open-air seating, providing a pleasant ambiance. Additionally, the cafe features beautiful private rooms that are perfect for hosting parties. One notable aspect of La Mer Panji is the Greek statuary adorning the rooftop. It is one of the more formal-lookng cafes in Ulsan. The design of the ceiling windows and the arrangement of the seating area resemble the style found in Odin Bakery and Loveblanc Cafes in Pohang.

La Mer Panji Bakery & Cafe received three prestigious design awards in South Korea in 2022. The cafe’s architectural concept draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of Panji village, seamlessly integrating with the environment. To enhance its visual appeal, a beautiful reflection pool is incorporated, creating the illusion of the cafe floating on the sea. The exterior architectural texture, with its wave-like patterns, reflects the name of the cafe. Additionally, there are several other elements that pay homage to the area’s volcanic history.

One of the Prettiest Cafes in Ulsan

Walk past the water feature directly into the counter and display area. There are numerous delicious pastries lined up against the window. And now, the cafe serves brunch from 0930 to 1130 every day. Walk past the long counter, adorned with golden wave-like patterns, and you’ll discover theater-style seats. The seating adds a unique touch to the ambiance and a theatrical view to the ocean beyond. The cafe offers a wide array of delicious desserts, accompanied by good music and a pleasant atmosphere. Moreover, the view from the cafe is simply captivating. During our visit, we had the opportunity to try the dark cherry and blueberry croissant, as well as the peach creme cake. While both were delightful, the dark cherry croissant stood out as the more flavorful choice.

The second floor is decidedy different than the first. There are black, small decorative objects found throughout the space designed to further inspiration volcanic fragments. These elements contribute to the overall aesthetic and create a distinct atmosphere, cementing La Mer Panji as one of the most beautiful cafes in Ulsan.

There is parking available in the front of the cafe and further down the street, past the boat temple. However, as is often the case with large cafés, the available parking space may be limited. It’s recommended to allocate some time to take a leisurely stroll along the harbor, explore one of the nearby temples, like Seoknamsa Temple.

It is open daily from 09:00 to 22:00.

Hidden Bay Pool Villa & Cafe

Ulsan Pool View is renowned for its breathtaking bay view. Moreover, the cafe operates a charming pool villa right next door, adding to the overall appeal of the place. Conveniently located down the street from La Mer Panji, cafe-hopping between the two is a breeze. Despite their shared beauty, these two spots offer completely distinct atmospheres, ensuring a diverse and enjoyable experience for visitors.

The cafe offers a variety of seating options, including the second floor, rooftop, and poolside. There is a large kid and pet friendly area on the first floor.

We found two comfy bean bag chairs on the second floor, right by the floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a great view. My top recommendation from the menu is the vegetarian avocado sandwich, paired with a refreshing lemonade. However, if you feel like it, why not grab both and have a relaxing time by dipping your toes in the neighboring pool or simply enjoying the rooftop view of people having fun? It’s a perfect way to make the most of your visit!

Jeongsa Banya Dragon Jeongjahaesu Yeogwan

Jeongsa Banya Dragon Jeongjahaesu Yeogwan is one of the most unique cafes in Ulsan. As a random curiosity, I suggest keeping an eye out for unique things like this because they can be really cool and unexpected. During my visit to Ulsan a few weeks ago, where I explored Lamer Panjit Cafe and the Ulsan Museum of Art, I came across a fascinating sight—a docked ship.

What made it even more special was the fact that it had been transformed into a scuttled Buddhist Temple, offering temple stays for visitors, along with a small cafe. It was a one-of-a-kind experience for me, as I had never seen a temple quite like this before. The combination of history, spirituality, and the cafe’s ambiance created a truly memorable and unique visit in Ulsan.

What’s a Temple Stay?

A Temple stay is a unique opportunity to experience Korean Buddhism– its daily lifestyle, rituals, and spirituality. It generally entails staying at a Buddhist temple and engaging in daily monastic activities. It’s a very popular program for locals and experiments for foreigners.

However, with the scorching 100-degree weather outside and the doors propped open, I decided to stay outside and didn’t venture in this time. It was just too hot for me to explore the interiors, but it leaves an Ulsan cafe to discover on another visit when the weather is more agreeable.
