A Convenient Oasis: Exploring Taipei from the Green World Songshan Hotel
In our review of the Green World Songshan in Taiwan, we experienced a comfortable stay at this well-located chain hotel just a few doors down from the Houshanpi MRT station. Nestled on a street filled with local eateries, it offers a pleasant 15-minute walk to the lively Raohe Street Night Market and is only 3 km from the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper. What truly stood out to us was the hotel’s prime location directly across the street from one of the best Seven-Elevens. While all Seven-Elevens are fantastic, we’re particularly hopeful about visiting the one that serves draft beer.

Taiwan’s Green World Songshan Hotel Review
3-Days in Taiwan
Songshan is an old part of Taipei City, characterized by narrow streets, original architecture, and numerous family-owned shops. And the Green World Songshan is modern, featuring robust Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs with free HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime. However, the room was small, the bed a bit hard, and it was wedged into a corner. The bathroom, illuminated by a window into the bedroom, included a Japanese toilet, tub, and shower. It was compact, leading to the sink being placed in the main hallway next to the closet, safe, and refrigerator. Despite booking a balcony room, I regretted it as it lacked seating.
Need to Know
Remember, the electricity is 110V (similar to North America). Most people in Taipei speak Chinese, Taiwanese, and English. Additionally, the city boasts an excellent public transportation system; however, given our brief stay, we utilized it less than usual, relying more on taxis to navigate the bustling traffic and make the most of our limited time.
The Room at Green World Songshan Hotel
Our queen-size room featured complimentary cable, a flat-screen TV, and a delightful little balcony. Although it wasn’t our initial choice (due to a booking mishap on my part), we were pleasantly surprised by this charming find. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to fully enjoy the balcony as it rained almost every day, and there were no chairs on the balcony.
Our Taipei Plan
While our stay was enjoyable, the location proved somewhat distant from many tourist spots in the Ximending district. Unfortunately, the hotel was quite far from the airport. We had to take a 45-minute taxi ride—one of the most expensive airport taxi rides we’ve ever had. More on that later. On the positive side, it was very close to Taipei 101, Elephant Mountain, some beautiful temples, and Raohe Street Night Market—key items on my list. Public transportation wasn’t our primary choice due to the city’s heavy traffic. However, with only a three-day stay, we opted for more convenient travel options and took more taxis than usual.
I wouldn’t say I like group tours, whether they’re in Taipei or anywhere else. The idea of being part of a group and traveling with strangers makes me feel uneasy. However, private tours are often expensive, which adds to my frustration. So, I had to compromise when I found a tour on Klook that covered all the places I wanted to visit in Taipei, affordable at 41,000 KRW or USD 31 per person. So, I booked the tour to Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen, and the Golden Waterfalls for the day after tomorrow.
The Green World Songshan offers a Chinese and Western-style breakfast buffet in a pretty, industrial-chic dining room. It wasn’t great, but there were a few things we were able to enjoy. And you know I visited the seven-eleven across the street. I ate kaya toast, toasties, yummy onigiri (rice balls), marbled tea eggs, and bubble milk tea.
